Taking You from Surgery to Achieving Your Goals
They are some of the most dreaded words heard in your doctor’s office, “you need surgery.” All sorts of things go through your head, like how much will it hurt, how long will I be out of work, how much help will I need, and will this really work? The answers to these questions are unanswerable before your surgery, but with your excellent surgeon and the help of us at Empire Sports Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, all the answers will quickly come into focus.
Most patients spend all kinds of time worrying about the hospital and the immediate moments after the surgery, but don’t consider the importance of rehabilitation after the surgery. We, at Empire Sports Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, have spent our lives developing plans to work with you and your physicians to take you from surgery to achieving your goals.
Your surgeon may recommend physical therapy for several reasons:
- To promote healing
Empire Sports Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation uses modalities (such as heat, ice, electric stimulation, and/or ultrasound), manual therapy (such as massage, scar tissue release, myofascial release, mobilization, and/or manual stretching), and therapeutic exercises to speed healing and limit your bodies haphazard healing responses.
- To regain mobility
Surgery, especially on the lower extremities, limits your ability to move around. Physical therapy can help you return to your activities like walking, gardening, running, going to the gym and returning to your sport. Your physical therapist will understand your stage of recovery and healing. At Empire Sports Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, we understand that every person and every surgery is different, and we develop plans based on your previous level of fitness and your post op goals to regain your mobility.
- To have a faster recovery
Doing your necessary rehabilitation will help your body recover much more quickly than if left to your own devices. Physical Therapy, as soon as your doctor feels the surgery is stable, has been shown to lessen the time needed to recover.
- To regain your strength
After surgery, people tend to stay still because of pain or as part of the post-op protocol, which results in muscle loss. At Empire Sports Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, we develop plans based on the stages of healing, pre-op fitness level, and surgical precautions to regain your strength, so you can safely return to your prior level of function.
- To return to your full abilities
After surgery, it can seem like you will never be able to do everything that you want to do. It can feel like you’re in a dark endless tunnel. We, at Empire Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation have been through this endless tunnel with countless patients and can help you find the light at the end of the tunnel. We develop comprehensive treatment plans to take you from surgery to your regularly scheduled life, including helping you get to your bridge club, return to work, and get back to sports.
Post-op Physical Therapy is an essential aspect of your surgery and can guide you from surgery to your goals. Empire Sports Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation has the experience, expertise and passion to help you reach your full potential.
